Articles in Press

Articles in Press are manuscripts that have been peer-reviewed and accepted for publication in AJRCMB. These manuscripts are published online within days of acceptance, and before they have been copyedited or proofread. AJRCMB Articles in Press dramatically reduce the time to publication and provide readers with rapid access to the latest research. This method of publication reduces the usual time to publication by about 10 to 12 weeks.

AJRCMB Articles in Press are citable, searchable, and establish publication priority. The official publication date appears below the title followed by the Digital Object Identifier (DOI), an automatically generated unique identifier for intellectual property in the digital environment.

An example of a citation to an article published in Articles in Press would be:

Smith RJ, Jones BB. (December 1, 2002) Tumor Necrosis Factor and Asthma. Am J Respir Cell Mol Biol 10.1165/rcmb.200211-022OC.

It is important to ensure that your author and title information is correct, because this will become part of the paper's record in Medline, identified by the DOI. After your paper is accepted, it will then appear in Articles in Press. No changes to authorship (addition, deletion, or the order) or to the title will be possible. The final online and print editions will show the same authors' names and order as published in Articles in Press, and errors will need to be corrected through an Erratum. Corrections to the article may only be made by including these when you proof the typeset galleys of your article.

After the paper appears in Articles in Press, no changes to authorship (addition, deletion, or the order) will be possible. The final online and print editions will show the same authors' names and order as published in Articles in Press, and errors will need to be corrected through an Erratum.

The final citation form for AJRCMB articles that originally appeared as Articles in Press is:

Smith RJ, Jones BB. Tumor Necrosis Factor and Asthma. Am J Respir Cell Mol Biol 2003;28:100-120. First Published on December 1, 2002; 10.1165/rcmb.200211-022OC.

Final online and print publication of a manuscript will differ slightly from Articles in Press as a result of copyediting; there may also be differences in the quality and position of the graphics.

Once the issue of AJRCMB is published online and in print, the final version of your article will appear when searched, while the Articles in Press version will be stored in an accessible archive. Both versions will remain citable.

Embargo Policy

All Articles in Press are under embargo. Authors and interested third parties may not discuss their findings with the media until the embargo is lifted or until they are authorized by the ATS Department of Communications.

Journalists: Unless otherwise noted, these articles are under embargo (see the ATS Embargo Policy). Embargos expire upon online publication of the finalized article in the Current Issue section; AJRCMB online publication occurs approximately two weeks before the date of the print issue in which the article is scheduled to appear (the 1st of each month). Media reporting on the findings of these studies that break the embargo will be denied access to journal articles ahead of print.
